MG Rabi’s Kashrus Business

It’s triangle K in the States all over except Ralbag is far more respected, yet also not accepted, by Rov Minyan and Binyan of frum kosher consumers and authorities.

I've enjoyed being a computer science professor in Melbourne, Australia, as well as band leader/singer for the Schnapps Band. My high schooling was in Chabad and I continued at Yeshivat Kerem B'Yavneh in Israel and later in life at Machon L'Hora'ah, Yeshivas Halichos Olam.

  1. Gelatine is kosher.
    Cochineal is kosher.
Rennet from non-kosher animals is kosher.
    Unsupervised cheese is kosher.
Food from factories that have not been visited by a mashgiach is kosher.
Unverified ingredients used in “vegetarian” eateries are kosher.
Laffa matzah with normal, non-Pesachdik flour is kosher for Pesach.
All meat from a supposed “Ben Pakuah” animal is sold commercially, despite halachic arguments forbidding the gid and cheilev.
Halachic enquiries aren’t responded to or responses employ obfuscation.
Letters of approbation are obtained under false pretenses and not removed from the website despite their disavowal by the authors.

And now the “authority” behind these “innovations” has the gall to issue a media release attacking Kosher Australia for supposed “halachic irregularities”?!

    1. Yes I posted and withdrew it because a) I try to limit oxygen and b) there was a rumour it was fake. With Meir it’s hard to get straight answers. He’s the Fred Astaire of his business and I have an injured ankle 🙂

        1. Someone should ask him if it’s permitted to pray in Shira Chadasha, and if it’s permitted to lead services there. I dare you. He will weasel an answer which you can’t decipher.

    1. He basically said he no longer trusts Kosher Australia, and will not use their products in his line up. This sums him up. Every single reputable agency in the world, trusts Kosher Australia, and I know the Badatz trust Rabbi Mordechai Gutnick, even without inspection of their own, for a verifiable fact. But Meir is the iconoclast. They exist in every community—eg Triangle K in the USA which isn’t relied upon by anyone but everyone acknowledges the man as a Talmid Chacham, and the ex-Posek from Lakewood who frankly Meir should just follow. Again, a big Talmid Chacham, but people simply rely on a best practice world standard and they agree on what that is. An expert in Shechita recently came from Israel and looked at all three butchers in Melbourne, and pointed out some improvements in all of them, including yes Adass. The improvements were taken on by everyone. There were no fights no relying on a farvoveneh rishon or acharon or daas yochid, but rather a world wide agreement on what is Kosher LiMehadrin (which often e.g. Johannesburg can just mean Chalav Yisroel) and what is “regular” Kosher. There are some other issues, but these are well understood and accepted differences. For example, freezing meat and THEN salting it which some butchers in Melbourne do. There are major Poskim, who Meir is NOT, who say that this is fine. Others don’t. Milk Powder versus Milk for Chalav Yisroel etc

        1. I’m not sure I agree with you in this regard Isaac. Whether it gives IK oxygen or not, IK needs to be outed for what it really is. All too many people are taken in by IK and its CEO – witness the strong interest in the Ben Pakuah farce (there has even been interest here in Sydney in ordering the BK meat). I would be happy to take a back seat and stop my public comments and emails on IK if the Melbourne rabbinate said what needed to be said. I simply do not understand why the halachic authority behind Kosher Australia does not publicly denounce IK for what it is. By contrast, the rabbinic administrator of the Kashrut Authority in NSW has been quite vocal in warning consumers about IK. I am not sure if the K-Oz rabbi’s reluctance is a fear of being sued by IK for libel, or if he simply assumes that the layperson will – somehow – come to recognise what IK is of their own accord.
