Woman withdraws complaint about girl’s rape

I just don’t get it. People don’t all of a sudden suspect that a 5-year-old has been raped. If they do, then on what basis do they magically decide it was a figment of their imagination? As to the “local haredi (sic) Medical Facility” refusing to cooperate, they should be closed down simply on that basis. Modi’in Ilit has featured on my blog elsewhere. It sounds like a great place to live.

Several days after the police opened an investigation into an alleged rape of a five-year-old girl in Modiin Illit, the woman who filed the complaint has withdrawn it.

Nevertheless, the police have not suspended the investigation despite admitting that there are doubts as to whether a rape had indeed taken place.

On Monday, the police confirmed it was investigating suspicions that a girl at the age of five was raped by a man in the haredi settlement of Modiin Illit. The probe was launched following reports of medical treatment the girl had undergone.

The local haredi medical facility refused to cooperate with the investigation as did other residents who were reportedly instructed to keep mum. Neither the child nor the suspect have been located as of yet.

Rumor of the incident started spreading in the town last weekend, and according to residents, an anonymous complaint was filed with the police Friday.

Police questioned several residents who were warned they would be charged with obstruction of justice if they fail to cooperate.

According to the few details investigators have managed to gather, it is suspected that sometime in the past two weeks a man approached a five-year-old girl he saw on the street, took her to a warehouse at a nearby synagogue where he abused her for two hours.

Police said: “The investigation is rigorous, but we’re running into walls of silence from everyone. We’re utilizing all the resources we have in order to trace all those involved. I hope we can do so soon.”

  1. Isn’t anyone considering the possible long term effect on the child in question if it is true?
And what about the perpertrator? He is likely to offend again!
What is it with these chareidim who seem to make lght of these issues?
As long as it isn’t murder its’ okay?

  2. I give you two options.

    1. It was a hoax.
As soon as the report came out that the police couldn’t find the victims, or anyone slightly associated with it, it is automatically framed in the media narrative that heredim don’t report sexual abuse, that they are worried about reputation and shidduchim etc etc

no need to present any facts, the story gets a life of its own, less facts = more coverup, no facts no facts = 100% coverup

  3. Dare I mentioned what happened when a gentile child was fouodead peach time??

    Option 2.
    The story is true.
There was a brutal incident which will terrify any normal person. But in the insular community of modiin ilit, the parents, teachers, rabbis, doctors, neighbour’s all keep mum. They are like the anshei sdom etc..

What do you think is more likely?

    1. Another important point I forgot to mention :

When it says that the local medical clinic was not cooperating, it means that they denied knowing of any story.

So if there was no story, they are automatically not cooperating. Same with the Rabbis parents etc

      1. What mother? Where did you ever get the idea that there was a mother (or a woman claiming to be a mother) involved? If there had been an alleged mother, then there would have been no problem locating the alleged girl or her family, would there? But there was never any mother, so no one had any idea who the alleged victim was or how to find her.

      1. so does this just join the rumor mill; swirling around the Charedi community.
If the mother lied and is normal she must be charged and tried in a court of law.
If she lied and has a psychiatric profile that needs to be handled via the mental health system.
One thing is certain the community of Moadin Elit cannot be held accountable for the actions of an individual.

          1. I sense that we have entered a period where individuals communities and society at large is taking these issues seriously, the era of sweeping things under the carpet has become totally unacceptable.
I would agree there are still major pockets of resistance to reporting to the secular authorities but even those segments are under siege.
As a Brooklyn resident with close contacts in the Williamsburg community, I am aware that post the conviction of Weberman, the organized community is reviewing how the therapy and counselling and reporting process should be conducted.

            1. But look at the Aguda stance, look at the Halpern debacle in England. yes they are in the public eye but until we actually see them decree mandatory reporting as Halacha in their communities it will persist … These sicko’s need to present to the police and the courts

            2. I would be considered by many to be on the right of Orthodoxy.
However in these matter I and all the Lubavitchers I count as friends are committed to mandatory reporting.
I must say that those in the Aguda camp I know personally have the same attitude.
The jury is out on the Halpern case, everyone will have their day in civil court.
I heard he was released without charge from police custody last Shabbos.
The Padwa case is a major Chilul HaShem, that rabbi is a disgrace to G-d and His Torah.
