Sadly, we now have this

I've enjoyed being a computer science professor in Melbourne, Australia, as well as band leader/singer for the Schnapps Band over many years. My high schooling was in Chabad and I continued at Yeshivat Kerem B'Yavneh in Israel and later in life at Machon L'Hora'ah, Yeshivas Halichos Olam.

  1. Isaac, no one’s opinion is disqualified, no matter how ignorant or repugnant.
I ask this question: do we believe as we preach all the time that shidduchim come from The Abishter or don’t we?

  2. Yes Isaac, the walled view is a major problem. Does Fred call the police if he is “burgled”? Some poor, misguided fellow may sit in jail because of that. The fact is, especially in the cases at hand: society must be protected, we don’t need hundreds more victims just from these ratbags alone. One need not wait till problem are experienced to understand this.I remember the line in a MAD magazine about 50 years ago (yes, then it was involved in cutting edge political comedy), goes something like this: “The thinnest telephone book in the world is of liberal, USA senators who have been mugged”.

    1. The reason I posted the letter was twofold:

I would like to see victims come forward to the police and relay their experience
I would like the issue to be on every body’s lips so that heightened awareness and education may result

There are some who simply want to “get at” those who may have not done the right thing and report when they should have. They were different times. It was a very very different world. In OUR world, we need to recognise the problem. It cuts across all Schools, religious or non religious, Jewish and non Jewish, and we need to tackle it front on. Our children and granchildren expect us to be responsible for creating a safer environment. The authorities: from police, to professional psychologists and the like, are trained and מומחים to deal with such issues in a caring and supportive manner. Their laws are our laws, quite apart from דינא דמלכותא.

      1. It would be so nice if there was an email from the Yeshivah to all subscribers saying just that: “…victims come forward to the police…”. The fact that there is absolute silence makes one wonder: as far as they are concerned, are they such “different times”, is it “a very very different world”? Do you think they would act so differently now, for holy reasons of course, if they thought they could get away with it (think Leifer)? And I’ve heard that you know it was not just then, but even more recently. So some things are different, but some haven’t yet changed, so don’t try to defend the indefensible(s).

        1. This is pure conjecture. The police know how to conduct investigations, and if they feel that anyone is obstructing their investigation, they know what to do. I doubt whether you know the inside workings of the investigation vis a vis Yeshiva and its interaction with the investigation. That investigation will take its course. I’d hope that if YOU know of a victim, that you can at least convince them to come forward, Do you know one? Have you been able to get them to come forward? The key to this is the future. I have absolutely no doubt that God forbid if and when the next such crime is perpetrated that NO School or person of any Authority will do anything other than report the matter to the police.

what was happening in our city?

how many of them knew what was in addas, and didn’t open their mouths?

    why didn’t they?

  4. Would you say that Rabbi Telsners’ drasha today regarding the spies alluded to the current police investigation or am I paranoid? The spies should not have used their own sechel, they should have relied on the sechel of their leader Moshe R.
Can I extrapolate that to “we should not get involved, leave it to the COM”

  5. I know a victim from one of the schools in Melbourne.

Do I encourage the person to testify in court? What if his/her/the family Rabbi comes out and says its mossar and puts the victim into cheirem and says no one is allowed to talk to the victim including the victim’s family? Or something similar? We don’t know, as the Rabbonim of the associated schools have not said anything.

Also, why the complete silence from Yeshivah? I would have expected the above letter to have come from Yeshivah with a covering letter encouraging victims to go to court. Doesn’t look like much encouragement to a victim. “Yeshivah is assisting police”. Yeah, right, not even labels for the envelopes.

    1. Sorry Steven, this one was also in the Spam folder 🙂
If you know a victim, yes, please please please encourage them to go the police. If the Rabbi says it’s Mesira, and you are unwilling to name him, and the victim WOULD otherwise go the police, please let me know privately who the Rabbi is, and I give you my word that I will go and see the said Rabbi with some witnesses and confront them.

if there is such a rabbi he is a rabbi without basic halachic knowledge, and the police and his community will give him a lesson that he will never forget.

In view of todays media revelations which are but the tip of the iceberg(anyone want to argue the point on that assertion) will the COM & Trustees & others employed by the YC persist in their arrogant way? Those who have cried out for accountability/transparency etc were always right but will the COM now concede that? What has happened would have been nipped in the bud & exposed publicly under a democratic & fully open system. The nepotistic system in place allowed what did happen to happen. The very ones who were there to teach us Torah by way of their own impeccable behaviour have been shown to be shekker. Had the School bit the bullet & done what the Torah says should be done their legacy would be intact, indeed enhanced.YC was a victim of a rogue teacher but by foolishly thinking the Torah could be sidestepped to save reputations was folly. It showed a complete lack of emmunah & love of ones fellow Jew by all those who now have been exposed as LITERALLY having blood on their hands.By trying to hush things up & move him on more hapless victims were tampered with, some in the most despicable way(read sodomized). So how does things weeks parsha(Korach)relate to these long suppressed revelations finally being exposed.Tell us,TELL US TELL US.Don’t give wishy washy drashas again that are full of innuendo, just say it loud & clear in plain English,

    1. I was surprised to see the Age’s revelations thread disappear, as it might be interesting reading for anyone considering going to the police.
